Coding Bootcamp, Week 1

DobrĂ½ den !

Welcome to my journey to becoming a web developer. 10ish days ago, I've left my old life in Paris, my flat, my job, my friends, etc, to go to Prague for a three months coding bootcamp in Prague that will make me an entry-level developer.. as soon as I put the work needed i.e a lot.

I've tried coding in the past, and my GitHub page has more than twenty repos. But I am far from what I would need to know as an entry-level dev, and knowing theory, how to make simple things doesn't suffice. One needs to practice, and to know things such as OOP, MVC, and also frameworks such as Angular. Thus the bootcamp choice.

As for the city, I've been pleasantly surprised. I'm like a kid in Disneyland. The architecture is out of this world, and coming from Paris, I've found something that I've been searching for long: A calm life, without people running everywhere, a human-sized city. Also, eating (and drinking beer, but it's obvious) in here is so cheap and good-tasting. A simple life, with its simple joys.

As far as the bootcamp is concerned, it's the first cohort, but the instructors have all been awesome. As this is the first week of it, I'm just reviewing some notions I already knew, and fiddling with some codes. But it is explained in such a great way that I haven't been bored a second even if It's nothing new for me.. for now. We also had some talks and workshops about the development process, having an idea of the big picture of web apps, mockups, etc. What a course.

The ambiance is really great, everyone is so happy to be there and hard-working. Every one of us has their own unique background and reasons, but we all share the same will to learn. We'll definitely achieve something great at the end of that.

I've enjoyed this first (calm) week to improve my workflow with some Atom plugins and tricks :

  • Emmets : This one is crazy. How have I been able to live without it.
  • Pigments : Colorates the colors in your code with the actual, matching color
  • Highlight Selected: Highlight similar occurencies

That's all for today !
